Salisbury will be responsible for working with Mainsail’s portfolio companies to guide strategic and financial planning, scale their financial operations, and support strategic investments in the businesses.

“Bill’s experience building teams and infrastructure to help fast-growing technology companies scale will be tremendously impactful for Mainsail’s portfolio,” said Jason Payne, managing partner at Mainsail.  “In addition to his experience as a CFO, Bill’s background in investment banking and law provides a breadth of knowledge that will be valuable to Mainsail’s portfolio executives, as well as Mainsail’s internal operations,” added Payne.  “We are thrilled to have Bill join our growing team.”

Prior to joining Mainsail, Salisbury was CFO of Hearsay Social, a privately held enterprise software company, where he oversaw finance, accounting, legal and people operations.  Before Hearsay Social, Salisbury served as CFO of Avast Software and Crescendo Bioscience.  Earlier in his career Salisbury was a managing director in Morgan Stanley’s Investment Banking Division, where he advised the senior management teams at technology companies on initial public offerings and other equity and debt financings.  Bill started his career practicing law with Davis Polk & Wardwell.

“This is a unique opportunity to leverage my experience as a CFO, my background in investment banking and my knowledge of legal matters to help entrepreneurs achieve success in their next stage of growth,” said Salisbury.  “I have great appreciation for Mainsail’s strategy of providing operational support for their portfolio companies and am excited to join a firm with such a stellar reputation in the market.”

Salisbury will play a key role on Mainsail’s Operations Team which is focused on helping bootstrapped companies in the specific areas they need the most help, including finance, sales, marketing, technology, recruiting and business development.  In addition to helping Mainsail’s portfolio companies, Bill will lead financial and accounting due diligence on potential deals and provide financial, accounting and operational leadership within the firm.

Bill earned his Law Degree from Harvard Law School and earned his bachelor’s degree with distinction from Stanford University.

In February, Mainsail announced that it closed its fourth fund with $384 million of committed capital.
